FAQ
Painting questions, answered
The questions people actually ask before they book. If yours is not here, call or text (857) 880-7832 and ask Cayo directly.
Cost and estimates
How much does it cost to paint a house in Somerville?
Most projects run between $2,500 and $8,000, depending on the size of the property and the scope of the work. A single room sits well below that; a full exterior or whole-home repaint sits at the top of the range or above. The spread comes from preparation rather than paint.
Is the estimate free?
Yes, free and with no obligation. Cayo looks at the job himself and talks you through what it needs.
Will the price change once you start?
The price you agree is the price you pay for that work. If something unexpected turns up behind a surface — rot, failed plaster, water damage — it is discussed with you before any extra work is done.
Why are painting quotes so different from each other?
Almost always because they include different amounts of preparation. One quote assumes filling, sanding, caulking and priming; another assumes two coats over whatever is already there. Compare the scope, not just the totals.
The work itself
Who actually does the painting?
Cayo Andreatta, the owner, runs the job and is on site. For larger projects he brings his team — that is how three large apartments were painted in four days. You deal with him directly either way.
What preparation is included?
Floors and furniture protected, holes and cracks filled, surfaces sanded, joints caulked, and primer where the surface needs it. It is part of the job from the start, not an extra added halfway through.
What paint do you use?
Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams. Both cost more per gallon and both last longer. If a cheaper product is better for your job, Cayo will say so.
Do you move the furniture?
Yes. Furniture is moved to the center of the room and covered, floors are protected, and everything goes back where it was before we leave.
How long will my job take?
Two bedrooms and an office took a day and a half on a recent job. Three large apartments took four days with the team. A single room is usually a day. Exteriors depend on weather as much as size.
Do I need to move out?
No. We work room by room, protect floors and furniture, and clean up at the end of each day. Most customers stay in the house throughout.
Timing and seasons
When is the best time to paint a house exterior in New England?
Late April to mid-October, with May, June, September and early October the most reliable. Most exterior paints need surface and air temperatures above roughly 50°F to cure properly, and the surface has to be dry.
Can you paint interiors in winter?
Yes. Interior work runs all year, and winter is often easier to schedule because exterior season has ended.
How far ahead should I book?
For exterior work in summer, book in late winter or early spring — the season is short and the good slots go early. For interiors, just ask — Cayo will give you a straight answer on timing.
Older homes and lead paint
My house was built before 1978. What does that mean?
The EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule requires anyone paid to disturb painted surfaces in a pre-1978 home, childcare facility or preschool to be certified in lead-safe work practices. Massachusetts runs its own EPA-authorised program. Raise your specific house when you call, before work is scheduled.
Why does my plaster keep cracking?
Seasonal movement. Most older Greater Boston homes are lath and plaster rather than drywall, and plaster moves as the heating goes on and off. A crack skimmed with filler will reopen; cut out, filled and feathered wide, it stands a far better chance of staying shut.
Can you paint over a water stain?
Not directly. Water stains bleed through ordinary paint, sometimes weeks later. The stain needs sealing with a stain-blocking primer first — and the leak itself needs fixing, or the stain comes back regardless.
Practical
Are you insured?
Yes, Phenoms Pro Painters is fully insured. Certificates of insurance can be supplied to a property manager, a building or a landlord on request.
Is there a warranty?
Yes — a workmanship warranty. If something is a legitimate touch-up or a workmanship issue, Cayo comes back and takes care of it.
How do I get hold of you?
Call or text (857) 880-7832, or send the estimate form. Calls, texts and forms all reach Cayo directly rather than an office.
Do you work for landlords and property managers?
Yes. One recent landlord had three large apartments painted in four days. Keeping one specification across units stops a building drifting a shade every time a different painter is used.
