Interior Painting

Interior Painters in Somerville & Greater Boston

Walls, ceilings, bedrooms, stairways and whole-home repaints — prepped properly and finished clean.

Our projects typically run $2,500–$8,000 across all kinds of work. A single room sits well below that; a whole-house interior can sit above it. The estimate gives you the real number.

The part you never see is the part that matters

Two interior jobs can look identical the day the painters leave and look nothing alike three years later. The difference is underneath: whether the filler was sanded flush or left proud, whether the caulk line was renewed, whether repairs were primed before the color went on.

That is where the hours go on our jobs.

What a typical interior job looks like

We start by protecting the room: furniture into the middle and covered, floors papered wall to wall. Then the repairs — filling, sanding, caulking — and priming anything that needs it. Only then does the finish paint come out, usually two coats.

Hardware and switch plates come off rather than getting taped around. It takes longer and it is the reason the edges look right.

At the end we walk the house with you, room by room. If something needs a touch-up, it gets one before the job is called finished.

Room by room

Every room asks something different of the paint. There is a page for each, with photographs from rooms we have finished: kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, living and dining rooms, hallways and stairways and basements.

Stairways and landings are more work than people expect — the height means ladders or staging, and the handrails and balusters are detail work rather than roller work.

Whole-home repaints are part of the work too, between tenants and before a sale. If you are a landlord working to a turnaround date, say so in the estimate request: three apartments in four days is a job we have done.

What the job actually needs

The product matters as much as the brand. These are what this kind of job calls for — Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams finishes, plus the standard primers the trade relies on. Ask Cayo which he recommends for your job, and why.

  • Spot priming

Repairs, bare plaster and water stains need sealing, or they telegraph through the finish

Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 or Benjamin Moore Fresh Start

  • Wall finish

A washable interior paint that holds a clean edge and takes a scrub without burnishing

Benjamin Moore Regal Select or Sherwin-Williams Duration Home

  • Ceilings

A dead-flat ceiling paint, because any sheen at all shows every ridge under raking light

    Benjamin Moore Waterborne Ceiling Paint

Questions

Interior Painting — common questions

How much does interior painting cost in Somerville?

Most interior projects run between $2,500 and $8,000, depending on the number of rooms and the condition of the walls. A single bedroom sits well below that. The spread comes from preparation rather than paint — cracked plaster, old woodwork and heavy color changes all add hours.

How long does it take to paint a room?

Two bedrooms and an office took a day and a half on a recent job, and three large apartments took four days with the team on site. A single room is usually a day. The variable is repair work, not the painting itself.

Do I need to move out while you paint?

No. We work room by room so you keep the rest of the house, protect floors and furniture, and clean up at the end of each day. Most customers stay in the house throughout.

Do you move the furniture?

Yes. Furniture is moved to the center of the room and covered, floors are protected, and everything goes back where it was before we leave.

What paint do you use?

Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams. Both cost more per gallon and both last longer, which is the point. If a cheaper product is better for your job, Cayo will say so — one customer was talked out of the brand they had chosen in favor of a higher quality, less expensive paint.
